Suzuki Cappuccino

Nothing like a nice cup of  cappuccino on a early spring morning at the cafe.  I like my cappuccino with a cinnamon roll.  How about a little turbo with your cappuccino?

This is the Suzuki Cappuccino.  It weighs 725 kg (1,598 lb) and the dimensions are 3,295 mm (129.7 in) long and 1,395 mm (54.9 in) wide.  This little guy is no push over.  It’s powered by a turbocharged, three-cylinder, 657 cc engine.

In an episode of the famous Initial D animation the Cappuccino came very close to beating the AE86.  I know, I know…comparing an animated show to real life street race might sound a bit silly but the Cappuccino is still impressive and looks really cool.

Check out these replicas that used a Suzuki Cappuccino.  Yes, in case you are wondering these are all cars that were converted from a Suzuki Cappuccino.  The mini version of the Chevy Corvette is my favorite.

There continues to be an increase in interest and price on certain vehicles at the Japanese auto auctions.  As we see a lot of GT-R, RX-7, Silvia, Supra and other JDM cars being exported overseas the Cappuccino is also finding homes abroad.  If you are going to buy a Cappuccino get it directly from the Japanese auto auctions to save money.  Provide Cars has been a member of JUMVEA (Japanese Used Motor Vehicle Export Association) for 20 years and have both excellent service and reputation.  They will help you get the car you want safely to your destination.  Sign up for a free trial account today!

Auto Show, Auto Auction and AUTOBACS

One of Japan’s largest auto shows “Osaka Auto Messe” ,大阪オートメッセ, was held from February 10-12 at Osaka Intex.  I had the opportunity to take three customers visiting from the U.K and Israel.  The show’s primary focus is modified cars and aftermarket parts.  The show averages a little over 200,000 people every year.  It took a few hours to get through the auto show but every minute was worth it.  One of the halls were dedicated to food and R/C racing events.  The french fries with mayo and cod’s roe was amazing!

Some of the cars are owned by auto parts shops and others are owned by individuals. What seemed to amaze my new friends was the amount of money and dedication that has been invested into these cars.  One of them said, “In the U.K. modifications are mostly made on the exterior.  In Japan it’s the exterior, interior, engine room….everywhere!”

The day before the auto show I took them to Super Autobacs in Kobe.  Autobacs is a one stop shop for all car care needs and more.  They carry anything from oil filters to turbo mufflers.  If you want to do some serious modifying on your sweet ride this is the place to come.  After a while I had to sit down in one of the bucket seats on sale while my UK friends shopped around.  It was satisfying to see them “ooh and aah” as if they were in a toy store with toys and gadgets they have never seen.  If you love cars this is a must go destinations when you visit Japan.

After visiting Autobacs we went to the auto auction nearby.  The photo below shows about 10,000 cars at the auction yard.  About 1000 cars are sold every hour.  FYI, this is not the largest auto auction in Japan though.  The largest auto auction sells approximately 1400 cars an hour!  23 cars a minute!  I used to sell cars in the U.S. in my 20’s and barely sold 10 cars a month!  LOL!

The Japanese auto auction sells more than just Japanese Domestic Market cars.  There’s plenty of European and American cars available as well.  Ferrerai, Bentley, Lamborghini, Mazerati, Mercedes-Benz, Rolls Royce were a few that greeted us at the auction entrance. Which one would you want to place a bid on?

All in all we had a great time going to Autobacs, Japanese auto auction and the auto show in Osaka.  The great news is that relationships were built and new business opportunities have been made.  If you’re thinking of buying a car from the Japanese auto auction please call or email us.  Let us help ship your dream car to you!

Skyline aka Godzilla

A lot of you have seen both the Nissan GT-R and Godzilla in motion pictures.  Some of you have heard people refer the Nissan Skyline GT-R as “Godzilla”?  Anymore, it seems like anything that is made in Japan with some form of beast mode factor seem to get the nickname “Godzilla” like the Citizen Promaster Diving  Watch.  (it’s a really BIG watch)

Maybe you saw the GT-R for the first time when you watched Fast and Furious 7.  Here’ a question for you. What do they call  “Fast and Furious” in Japan?  Drum roll……..”The answer is”……..”WILD SPEED!” In Japanese it’s “ワイルド スピード”.  I guess “Wild” was easier to pronounce than “Furious”?

“Intial D” or 頭文字D is an animated show that highlights illegal street racing with cars like the Skyline GT-R.    I am not promoting illegal street racing here.  But as I said in my previous blog I have been to illegal straight races in the past here in Japan.

So, which car company made the first Skyline?  If you said, “Nissan” you are incorrect.  The correct answer is Prince Motor Company.  It was the Prince Motor Company who introduced the Skyline in April of 1957.  In 1966 Prince Motor Company joined Nissan.  This is how we have the Nissan Skyline.

My favorite Skyline is the 1971 Sklyine 2000 GTX  also known as the ハコスカ、Hakosuka.  There is something to be said about the not so aerodynamic body.  You gotta love the fender mirrors too!

So, who is responsible for designing the Skyline?  His name is Shinichiro Sakurai、桜井 眞一郎, the father of the Skyline.  It is said that he was involved in every Skyline till the day he died.

Here are other various Skyline models.  You can find these cars at the Japanese auto auctions.  Many foreign dealers and private buyers are buying up Skylines at the Japanese auto auctions.    Getting one is not as hard as you think.   If you sign up with Provide Cars  they will be by your side to help you through the purchasing and shipping process.

The Japanese auto auctions are like no other.  Most of the cars sold are in excellent condition.  It’s one of the best kept secrets in my opinion.  What is so exciting is that you don’t have to have a dealers license to get your dream car at these auctions.  All you need to do is sign up with Provide Cars Ltd and place your bid.  Our bilingual staff will take good care of you.  I’ve purchased a car on ebay once.  I can’t say that it was the best buying experience. The car I bought was in worse condition than I thought when I picked it up.  Recently, a gentleman from England told me that he purchased a car on ebay and never received the car!  The seller took his money and ran.  He ended up getting only a portion of the money back from the bank.  The same gentleman purchased a car through Provide Cars and received it just a few weeks ago.

Back to the GT-R.  When you think of super cars it’s definitely up.  For the price I think it’s one of the best when it comes to biggest bang for your buck.

The Majestic Toyota Century

Rolls Royce, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz and Cadillac. These are the choice of rides for  kings, queens, presidents, prime ministers and other world leaders.  But wait…..what about the Emperor of Japan?  I’m glad you asked.  Emperor Akihito rides in none other than the Toyota Century!  The Century derived its name from the 100th birthday of Sakichi Toyoda (born 14 February 1867), the founder of Toyota.  Did I mention the Century is the top choice for the prime minister of Japan, company executives and the Yakuza, ヤクザ、the Japanese mafia?

The Century is so exclusive that the golden phoenix is carefully hand carved on every wheel.  Here’s something else that makes this car special.  If a malfunction were to occur in the V12 engine the motor will keep running on 6 cylinders.  The new model coming out this year will be a V8 hybrid.

The interior is well equipped with all the bells and whistles for a relaxing ride.  The body is very solid and the ride is smooth as riding heavenly clouds.  The time and effort that goes into building the Century is a wonderful representation of the Japanese saying “お客様は神様” Okyaku sama wa kami sama.(the customer is god) Whether you are a heavenly host or a regular host the Japanese know how to make you feel like a million bucks.

In a rapidly changing world the Century has kept it’s tradition by keeping the car look similar to previous models.

Nissan has tried to produce something similar called the Nissan President.  It’s a beautiful car but isn’t as appealing as the Century.

Believe it or not you can find the Toyota Century on the roads of Europe, United States and other countries.  There is a growing number of collectors that can’t get enough of this Japanese luxury.  A brand spanking new Toyota Century is priced in the six figures (100,000 to 125,000 USD) but you can get an older model for a very modest price.  The older they are the least expensive they get.  I’ve seen a 1999 sell for less than 2000 USD at Japanese auto auctions.

Taking a ride in a Century is on my bucket list.  Heck, maybe I’ll just own one someday or just put the hand carved wheels on my van!!  The older ones can be found for a few thousand dollars in the Japan car auctions on our homepage!  A real classic undervalued and worth an investment!
