On March 2, 2025, the Komaki Air Base, located in Komaki City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, hosted its annual aviation festival. Our staff had the opportunity to visit the site and report on the event.
The day was unfortunately met with light rain, and the sky was covered in thick clouds. However, as we approached the base, the deep rumbling sounds of aircraft reverberated through the otherwise quiet residential area, heightening our anticipation for the festival. Looking up, we saw an F-15 fighter jet gracefully circling in the sky, its sheer power leaving us in awe. Above the base, the F-15 maneuvered as freely as a bird, displaying incredible agility and speed.
This F-15 is manufactured under license by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, incorporating the pinnacle of Japan's aerospace technology.
In fact, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is deeply involved not only in aircraft manufacturing but also in the automotive industry, forming part of the foundation of Mitsubishi Motors. For example, the legendary Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution series was known for its exceptional driving performance and agility, resembling a fighter jet racing across the ground.
Even today, Mitsubishi vehicles continue to embody the technology and philosophy cultivated through aircraft development, as seen in the revival of the "Ralliart" brand. Just as the F-15 soars freely through the skies, Mitsubishi cars provide drivers with both the thrill of driving and a sense of reliability.

The festival grounds featured numerous food stalls, allowing visitors to enjoy a variety of festival delicacies while watching the aerial performances. Our staff grabbed a kebab and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. In addition to kebabs, there were classic Japanese festival foods like yakisoba, takoyaki, and karaage, with long lines of eager visitors at every stall.
The Stunning Performance of the Blue Impulse
The highlight of this year’s festival was undoubtedly the aerial demonstration by the Blue Impulse, Japan’s renowned aerobatic team. A massive crowd gathered to witness their performance, and the excitement was palpable. The moment the Blue Impulse aircraft took off and soared into the sky, cheers erupted from the audience.
The breathtaking sight of six jets flying in perfect formation directly toward us was mesmerizing. Their precise maneuvers and dynamic acrobatics captivated everyone, leaving the audience in awe. As they gained altitude and released trails of smoke, the patterns they drew in the sky resembled an intricate work of art. This was our first time witnessing the Blue Impulse live, and we were genuinely moved by the beauty and power of their flight.
Other Aircraft Displays and Events
In addition to the Blue Impulse performance, various aircraft, including the C-1 transport aircraft, KC-767 aerial refueling aircraft, and UH-60J helicopter, were on display. The interior exhibition of the C-1 transport aircraft was especially popular, attracting a long queue of visitors eager to explore the inside. Many took the rare opportunity to closely examine the aircraft's interior, expressing great interest in its features.
Besides the aircraft displays, there were also demonstrations by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) personnel, providing opportunities for audience interaction. Children, in particular, enjoyed taking photos with the JASDF members and participating in uniform try-on experiences. The sight of young visitors dreaming of becoming future pilots was heartwarming.
