Australia Car Import Regulations

Age RestrictionVehicles must be over 25 years old.
Vehicles less than 25 years old may be imported under the SEVs (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles) scheme.
Type ApprovalThe vehicle must be registered in the ROVER (Road Vehicle Regulator) system.
Steering Wheel RegulationRight-hand drive (RHD) vehicles only.
Quarantine InspectionVehicles are subject to external and internal inspections upon arrival in Australia.
However, used vehicles that have undergone pre-export cleaning and inspection (both interior and exterior) by an inspection agency approved by the Australian Government may be subject to a simplified inspection process upon arrival.
Duties and TaxesImport Duty: 5%
Goods and Services Tax (GST): 10% of the total value including the customs value and other duties/taxes
Luxury Car Tax (LCT): 33% for passenger vehicles (under 2 tons and fewer than 9 seats)
※ Commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses are exempt, but limousines are subject to LCT.
