Import Conditions for
Used Cars to Malaysia
Vehicle Eligibility
- Age Limit: Used cars must be within 5 years of manufacture at the time of import.
- Right-Hand Drive (RHD): Only RHD vehicles are allowed, as Malaysia drives on the left side.
- Personal Import Restrictions: Personal import is generally limited to foreign nationals with a valid work permit. The vehicle may need to be re-exported at the end of the work period.
Import Ports & Shipping
- Designated Ports: Common entry points include:
- Port Klang (Selangor)
- Penang Port (George Town)
- Kuching Port (Sarawak)
- Shipping Method: Most commonly via RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off), with container shipping also available on request.
- Estimated Shipping Time: Typically 9 to 13 days from Japan to Malaysia.
Taxes & Duties
- Import Duty (varies by engine size):
- Up to 1800cc: 140%
- 1801–1999cc: 170%
- 2000–2499cc: 200%
- 2500–2999cc: 250%
- 3000cc and above: 300%
- Sales Tax: 10% applied on the CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) + import duty.

Important Considerations
- Service Support: Importers must ensure parts and service availability in Malaysia for maintenance.
- Vehicle Registration: The car must be registered with the Road Transport Department (JPJ). Registration requires customs clearance documents, vehicle inspection results, and payment of applicable road tax and fees.

Consult with an Agent
Ensure that your country's import regulations match the vehicle specifications. Also, check the transportation costs from the auction venue and the final total amount.

Deposit Payment
Once the conditions are met, please make the required deposit payment and proceed with bidding.
Either a minimum of 100,000 yen, if the car value to be bid on is less than a million yen or 10% of the value of the vehicle you want to purchase.
