| Age Restriction | Vehicles manufactured on or after October 1, 2003 NZTA: Frontal impact compliance status of vehicles by vehicle make |
| Emissions | Models manufactured in or after 2005 with a three-digit model code NZTA: Acceptable character sets on Japanese deregistration, export certificates or completion inspection certificates |
| Steering Wheel Regulation | In principle, only right-hand drive vehicles can be imported and registered |
| Electronic Stability Control (ESC) | ・For new models released on or after October 2012, and for fully redesigned models from that date ・For existing models: from October 2014 onwards ・For kei cars: from October 2014 for new models, and from February 2018 for others NZTA: Electronic stability control identification |
| Exhaust Noise Regulation | During vehicle inspection, if exhaust noise is deemed excessive during a stationary muffler test, an Objective Noise Test may be required |
| Other Requirements | To demonstrate compliance with emission standards and frontal impact safety standards (Overall Standards), submission of the following documents is required: ・Final Inspection Certificate ・Notification of Intended Export Certificate ・Provisional Certificate of Deregistration for Export (must include the deregistration number issued by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) |
| Quarantine Inspection | Quarantine must be conducted by a designated inspection body (JEVIC) |
| Customs Duties and Consumption Tax | No customs duty is imposed on standard passenger vehicles with up to 9 seats A 15% Goods and Services Tax (GST) is applied |
